My Sustainable Skincare Routine

Skincare is something that has taken me a while to really get in to. I mean I always knew it was important but a couple of things really held me back.

  1. It seemed risky to invest in $60 products that might not work for my skin.
  2. I'm more of a go-with-the-flow gal and a 10 step skincare routine seemed impossible to implement.
  3. I really didn't know what products were actually good for my skin (not just claim to be good) and I wanted to be able to have minimal packaging/refill products that I loved.

After 2-3 years of research and trial and error, I've found a good routine that works for me and I wanted to share in case it works for you too! Or if you don't know where to start, here are some basic guidelines.

STEP ONE: Wash your face. I use our Kaolin Clay Face Bar everyday and love it. It's gentle, but cleansing with shea butter, coconut oil and activated charcoal. Wet your face + hands, rub the soap bar and work in circular motions around your face and neck for about 1 minute. Be gentle, but thorough.

STEP TWO: Dry your face to where it's still a lil damp and apply toner. I use our Lavender Face Toner and spray it all over my face + neck. It helps reduce the size of my pores and sets up my skin for success.

STEP THREE: Step three can be a serum or treatment if my skin needs some specific attention, but usually when my face is still a lil damp from the toner, I apply moisturizer. Two moisturizers that I love and have ordered multiple times are the OSEA Blemish Balm and Good Juju Herbal Skin Food.

None of these products are "miracle treatments" for my skin. I just feel like my skin really loves them and gets to live its best life with this routine.

STEP FOUR:  Usually I make breakfast, brush my teeth, etc between step 3 + 4. My fourth and final step is patting on Face Oil all over my face and neck. Our face oil is an emollient, which means it strengthens your skin barrier by filling in gaps, making your skin feel smooth and soft. And it gives me a bit of a glow (without looking greasy), which I love.

Step five should be applying an SPF which I have yet to find one that my skin loves and I can recommend. If you use a daily spf, send any recommendations my way!

ONCE A WEEK: Apply a nourishing face mask. I use our Face Mask Powder and either mix it with water or with toner depending on what my skin needs that day. Always wash your face first, then apply face mask and let sit for 10-15 minutes. This is one of my fave forms of self care and helps reduce build up and inflammation in my skin.

A couple of notes:

I've traditionally classified my skin as "combinational" but really I just have some good skin days and some "bad" skin days. My skin is usually on the oily-ish side, but sticking with this routine has really helped it balance out.

I'm not looking for perfect skin and want to love my face. If you're looking for a "quick fix" this isn't it. I would encourage you to find some products you love, use them consistently, and practice self-love.

The toner, face oil and face mask powder mentioned are all available for refill if you'd like to try just a tiny bit first. That way you can see what works for your skin!

Of course, I am not an expert but did want to share what I use and in what order. I hope this helps if you've had questions or have been hesitant to start.

After all, YOGOF (You Only Get One Face).
