let's chat about laundry detergent

In this blog post, we explore the transformative shift towards natural, refillable laundry soap as a sustainable alternative. Discover how making a simple change in your laundry routine can not only benefit the planet by reducing harmful chemicals but also contribute to a healthier home and a more responsible lifestyle. Join us on this journey to embrace eco-friendly practices and make a positive difference one load of laundry at a time.

Harmful ingredients to look out for in traditional laundry detergents.

1,4-DIOXANE - a known human carcinogen (and recently banned in the state of New York)

PHTHALATES - linked to endocrine disruption (and sometimes sneakily included in the ‘fragrance’ ingredient)

AMMONIUM SULFATE - a skin and eye irritant

Plant-based ingredients can also have complicated looking names. Here are some good ingredients and their "translations".

Cocos nucifera: common name is coconut oil

Sodium bicarbonate: common name is baking soda

Sodium dodecyl sulfate: plant-based surfactant (aka what removes dirt + grime from the surface) created from coconut oil

Caprylyl Capryl glucoside: biodegradable surfactant made from coconuts + corn starch and used as a cleanser and foaming agent
